My son was sentenced 2.5 years ago to a 3 year community order and had to do the Horizon course; he hasn't been able to do the course because there hasn't been any availability. This is discussed at every probation visit and it's been made very clear all along that it's not my son's fault and is out of his hands. Today he's received a letter telling him to appear in court next week for an 'Application to amend a Community Order' as there's insufficient time remaining on the order.

His probation officer is on leave but, at the same time as the court letter, he received another letter saying he's got a new PO. Great timing!

Should we be worried? (obviously the rest of the time I skip through life not worrying about a thing on this happy journey.........)

Hi,

no previous experience of an amendment but it sounds like they might look to extend the community order so that he has further sessions with probation while he does the horizon course. They left things last minute with my partner doing the horizon course but thankfully his ended a month before the end of his community order. It's also equally possible that they are going to try to remove the legal requirement for him to complete the horizon course, in my opinion it's definitely a course worth doing so if this is the case I'd recommend finding something similar that he could do. I'm sorry that they aren't more specific in what they're actually trying to do, that would eliminate some of the worry xxx
