Hi all,

My OH has been out of work for about 4 months now as he had to disclose to his previous employer and they didn't want to keep him on.

Aside from the usual companies that seem to pop up online that recruit those with unspent convictions, does anyone have any positive experiences or recommendations of employers or companies to try that we might have success from friends/relatives who have been in the same situation?

Police, probation, job centre have been no help. Have looked on Unlock and Nacro etc and he's applied for so many roles, ones that he's had to disclose on the application, ones he's had to disclose in person and ones he hasn't had to disclose at all during the application phase so far but still hasn't had any luck securing anything.

There's not many remote jobs going for his type of experience and probation have said he'll highly likely have to disclose in any role he secures.

Hi,

has he tried ban the box? Asda don't ask for their stacking shelves roles. His probation officer is trying to put restrictions on him that he doesn't have which isn't helpful. He only has to disclose if asked about unspent convictions. Remote work might be a stretch if he has restrictions around devices xxx

He's applied for Asda so fingers crossed - it was image offences only so I didn't think it would be this difficult to find something but the probation have said anything with any likelihood of working with under 18s he will have to disclose, whether they ask for it on the application or not...

He has no other restrictions, no SHPO, just the requirements of the register he has to comply with.

He's not applying for jobs with vulnerable people/children obviously like schools, healthcare. Normal jobs like retail, hospitality, office/admin jobs...

I have heard Iceland are proactive in helping people out with convictions. They have a scheme to help people into work with them.

My mum worked for iceland for a number of years too and they are a decent employer so maybe enquire?

Unfortunately Iceland on the application process state they won't employ sex offenders, I think this is a pretty recent change as a lot of the articles and posts online so they are a good one to try.

Have they looked at warehouse work? Jobs that dont involve face to face contact with customers, they may be more likely to accept him.

My husband got a job about a month after he was dismissed from his job working in a warehouse style job. He doesnt see customers.
