Hi everyone! I am new to this group. My brother was given a custodial sentence for sexual communication with a child (who was a decoy from a hunting group). He has learning difficulties and can barely look after himself and has never been in trouble with the law before, so naturally our family are beside ourselves with worry.

We have recently been provided with his prisoner number and he has asked for money to be sent to him. However it's not recognised on the Government website where you send the money through? I rang the prison and they confirmed the details I have are correct. So I have no clue how to resolve this issue?

In addition, we have no clue how visiting the prison works, how I can get his belongings to him etc?

Any advice for a newbie like me would be much appreciated thank you xx

Each prison have their own rules. The best thing is to ring the prison. When my OH was on remand i was always ringing the prison for advice and the people in the office were really helpful. They will be able to let you know how and when you can send stuff and how cisitng works. Different prisons have different rules.

If you are concerned about the welfare of your person you can ask for a welfare check. They will not give you an update but they will check and make sure your person is ok.

The website states if you cannot use the service online to send money, there is an exemption you can applly to send money through the post.

Your persons basic needs will be met until you can send money.
