My husband was videod when the vigilantes got him and he answered all these questions and said stupid things (that he insists aren't true) but it's destroyed our business, and it's still on Google. I don't know who knows or if my friends will find out, and the shame is making me isolated which is making everything worse.

The police said these things do pass, but also the internet is forever. Anyone with experience - does it pass? We're only on day 3. Does the feeling of being 'discovered' stop? I'm changing my kid's name and getting a divorce and have changed my name back on socials but I just feel so scared.

Sadly I don't think the feeling of being discovered ever really passes but what does happen is that you gradually start thinking of it less and less.

My son wasn't outed by vigilantes but did have his story in the local paper and all over social media twice. Living in a small area meant that everyone who knows him now knows what he's done.

I don't think there's a day that goes past when I don't think about it but it no longer dominates my thought and is no longer the first thing I think of when I wake up in the morning and the last thing I think about before I fall sleep.
