Sarah's Law query

I'm considering a Sarah's Law Disclosure as someone in my family is due for release soon and has always had supervised contact with my child since his arrest. Social services didn't give us any information other than he needs to be supervised at all times and had us sign an agreement about a week after his arrest. It took years between arrest and sentencing and neither the police not any professional has ever shared details with us. My partner was in court but I was not. I think a Sarah's Law Disclosure should be done so I have the first hand information but I'm surprised no one has given us full information in order for us to safety plan. Although the person in prison is not a parent to my child, he has always had regular contact since my child was born. Anyone else been in this situation or has it been missed because the person in question is not a parent?
Hi,
a Sarah's law request will only tell you what they were convicted of which you should already know. Are you looking to continue with supervised contact following his release or were you hoping you'd get enough information via a Sarah's law request to decide either way? xxx

Hi, thanks for your reply. Really appreciate it. I've only been told by family what he's been convicted of, but never from a professional. It feels like I need to just hear it from police or other professionals so I have the complete impartial picture.
My advice would be to wait until he's released and had his first meeting with probation or offender manager. You can then follow the procedure for a Sarah's law request stating that as your child may resume supervised contact you'd like to be able to decide if this is the correct decision xxx
That's very helpful and proportionate, thank you so much.
hi, Sarahs law is for disclosure of wether a person has a SO record or not and the risk they may pose to children in the family or not. However i believe you said you already know of your family members offence.
Maybe if you have concerns about contact you should involve the social services.

If your partner was in court they will know far more than Sarah's Law will tell you. So unless your partner is untrustworthy on this - which is a whole other massive problem - ask them.
