My OH was arrested last week for IIOC.

Hes been released on bail until January but what do we do now? Should he get a solicitor or is it too early? Is there a thing as too early?

All very new to this so any advice appreciated!

Was he not offered a solicitor at the police station when he got there?
If not, yes I'd highly recommend that he has one at this stage.

He should have had a duty solicitor at the first interview. But things will likely go quiet now, if they are examining devices, so there is not much most solicitors can do, until he knows if he is going to be charged or not.

However, its important to realise that there a few solicitors out there who do pre charge work. That means if the person is certain they are not guilty, then the solicitor will do their own investigations and liase with the police to try and get the case dropped before any charges are brought.

But if the person is guilty, this is a waste of time and money, because they are probably going to be charged anyway.

Hi both,

Thanks for your responses.

Yes he had a solicitor in his first interview but it's this horrible waiting time where you feel like you should be doing something but also knowing there is nothing you can do until they've gathered evidence.

We have questions around what happens next etc and wasn't sure if a solicitor is the best person to ask these to or not

Hello,

If you're looking for purposeful stuff to do (depending on what he says about what he did)

1) he can start therapy with StopSo

2) he can do the inform course with LFF

3) you can do the partners' inform course with LFF

4) you can get therapy/support with stopso or circles

all of this will help you both to get both of you prepared for what happens next and to deal with underlying issues too

I would agree with everything K4 has said. This is all vital work to begin his recovery.

However, we also appointed a solicitor very early on and has been vital to us along the way. Feel free to message me xxx

And sorry you join us here xxx
