My family member had voluntary interview last August , with thousands of images and videos found on telegram , but during a conversation with officer in change , I can't remember the ins and outs of the conversation, but said "if I decide to charge him " what exactly does this mean , he had all the evidence, is he still not sure weather to charge person ? Confusing to me .

Hi, When a crime is reported, the police investigate the crime and if appropriate refer the case containing all the evidence to the CPS.

CPS reviews the case and evidence and decides whether to prosecute.

If the case meets the requirements for prosecution the CPS decides which charges are most appropriate and informs the police.

The police will then issue the charges and usually a date for the first court hearing.

I hope that explains the process to you but please keep asking if it doesn't.

Thanks for replying , so the officer in charge doesn't have means to charge himself he has to pass it to cps first ? Well we've had radio silence since August , would he not tell us first if he's passing it to cps ?

The police hardly ever bother to tell people what is going on with a case. If you ask them whether it has gone to the CPS, they might tell you, but they are just as likely to ignore you.
