We had the knock last week. My 18 year old son has been accused of having iioc. His devices have been sent off, he has had initial interview with police and he has been bailed. His bail states that he can't have unsupervised contact with anyone under 16.
But - I have another son at home who is 16 years old. I've been told by the police that they can't be left unsupervised. I've taken leave from work to make sure I'm always home for now.
We had a call today from SS saying that they will have to come and do an assessment to determine whether my youngest son is at risk.
I'm panicking. I don't know what will happen in the assessment, and how concerned should I be? My 18 year old has nowhere else to go! But I also don't know how feasible it is to make sure two people in the same house are never in contact unsupervised.
Does anyone have wisdom from a similar situation that they can share?

Hi,
No experience personally with siblings being supervised but I would say that the police are being over zealous. If bail is no unsupervised with under 16s then there are no legal restrictions that would mean they can't be unsupervised.
Social services work on the probability of risk so until the meeting I would put things in place so they aren't unsupervised for now. Talk to your youngest being as honest as you can be about why your older son has been arrested and ask if he has any concerns. This is what ss will likely do when they come to meet your family. It's unlikely that they will want to put any plan in place as at 16 your youngest is able to keep himself safe.
Future planning might look like making arrangements for if your youngest wants to have friends over. How will you manage this safely with minimal disruption to your family life? xxx
