Hi all

I just wanted to update you on my meeting with my MP today. She was so kind and actually very supportive. I would really encourage others to do it if they are feeling strong enough. Our stories are so tough to share but she had never been approached by an offender's family before. So raising awareness of us as hidden victims is so important. For the first time since this happened I felt seen.

I'm happy to share the letter I wrote that got me the meeting. I also gave her the Lucy Faithfull report to expand on the points I included in my letter

Well done and thank you, Lisa. I would love to read what you sent your MP to start with so can you send it on the private message bit of the forum? I vowed to be an advocate for others after our person's sentencing which was today.... xx

Well done and thank you for doing this. It'd be good if you could share your letter on here?

Good the MP replied and met you as I know of other situations where the MP hasn't even replied.

Wishing you all the best with your situation.

I would definitely be interested in seeing the letter please - as I will try and do the same in my area.

I've submitted evidence of the impact of the media coverage which in the new year will be presented to the Code of Ethics Committee at the Indepebdent Press Standards Office. I've provided a summary about what the factual details of the case were versus how the reporter chose to sensationalise, omit and mislead the details. These offences come with such a crushing stigma I strongly believe the police, criminal justice system, social services and the press have a duty of care to understand better what leads to offending behaviour and not blow the perceived risk level out the water - which currently they do not. My faith in all of them has been permanently eroded.

Things have to change, for me it's too late (9 months post sentencing and media fall out) my life has been ruined by the press - but I want to do everything in my power to help protect others - partners and more importantly the children of those who have offended, from experiencing the life changing impact borne from ignorance and stigma.

Good luck to all those trying to achieve the same thing, I'd love to hear from anyone taking positive action to change this hideous narrative.

Last year I donated my Xmas card money to the helpline and would urge others to consider doing the same. This year our financial situation is desemated after my OH lost his job so I'm trying to find other ways to support LLF/Stop It Now and the wider cause.

Love to all xxx

I too would like to read the letter you sent please.

Like you Eye of Storm I would like to help prevent others going through what we have. Mine comes from point of view of children accused of this horrible act. My son was cleared and nothing found but it ruined his first year of college and took so long. We are still trying to get his xbox back today and 2nd time calling 101 she couldn't believe this was over when it started 2024. His mobile and tablet were returned 17 November but for some reason they didn't release the xbox until I called despite nothing been found. If no response tomorrow 101 as told me to complain. Its 5 weeks since it was released and no sign of it. Thinking they've lost it or broke it and it was brand new. Husband also thinks because my son had nothing found the OIC is no longer interested.

Since my sons arrest I've done nothing but trawl the internet in a panic looking for help. I came across a question on Reddit about getting devices back I took a photo of a reply as it seems it's not uncommon to struggle to get items returned. I hope this helps I'll be doing this if we have issues they've got 5 of our items and three aren't even our sons!

Send a letter to the police saying they no longer have the right to retain the device under S22 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and they need to arrange return to you within 14 days or you will initiate civil action.

Thank you Tilly20Web. I've to call at 3 if I've heard nothing via phone or email from OIC. Post as been and no letter so not holding out much hope.

Well done to you for doing sonething so proactive. It is beyond unfair that the family's should suffer so much when the person has media coverage. For a contact crime I get it of course this person may be a danger to the public & specifically children. But for an online offence only I dont believe that is neccessary, there's outweighs the 'benefit'. What is the benefit, there is none but the risk of outing someone publically can have significant cobsequences.
