Hi there,

First post on here after lots and lots of reading. I'm just trying to figure out what the general consensus is for communication offences are (real or decoy I don't mind) on rough timelines for devices checked, second interview and any general key dates if possible. I know including locations/regions is a sensitive detail but would be nice if people could include this just in the off chance it's the same as me.

Also wondering if anyone's case took over 9 months where any bail conditions dropped and moved to RUI or did they stay with a court approval for the whole time?

I know no two cases are the same but it's just nice to hear of similar people's stories to get a vague understanding of what maybe to expect.

thank you all

upset mother - that seems relatively quick compared to what I've been reading, is there any reason you know why?

winnie - was there any change to RUI during that awful 2 year wait or not?

Communication offence resulting in 3 charges. Work phone was checked and returned on the day of the arrest, computer checked and returned within a few weeks and personal phone was checked and returned within a few months.

The time from arrest to charges was 20 months. During this time the CPS requested further information from the police several times. He was RUI straight from the arrest and remained on that until sentencing. The date for plea hearing was given at the same time as the charges and was for 4 weeks later. The date for sentencing was given during plea hearing and was also for 4 weeks later. In total it took 22 months from arrest to sentencing.

Our experience is one of the longest I have heard (some are longer but it's rare). Original arrest (Devon and Cornwall police) was for images (all cats but under 50 images) and RUI immediately, and then a year into the investigation heard there was intelligence of one communication from a decoy in South Yorkshire police. It took a total of 3.5 years to get to court. Outcome 2 years suspended for 2 years, no probation involvement and no community work due to the sheer amount of work he did to better himself, goodness me he had the time! Luckily no media thankfully.

Worst time of my life but we are finally out the other side. Hang in there! X

Thank you both.

ellbee - was curious about the work your person put in to help not get probation etc? I know it mainly depends on the judge on the day but curious to see so we can make this work as best as possible. Thanks

Hi Scared - no change during the 2 yrs , no restrictions.

sentencing hearing was postponed at the last minute 3 times before it finally happened. The judge in the end was very fair and recognised the level of distress in his comments. He took the delays into account when passing sentence

My partner had his first arrest in June 2018, which was a house search and questioned then heard nothing for 5 years even questioned the police to see what was happening between .... when they did another arrest and house search with questioning again then had to wait 10 months till he was told it was going to court which was dated for october 2024. So was over 6 years from start to finish. Don't think covid helped.
