Device returned but damaged

Hi
As anyone any experience of devices being returned and being damaged.
After numerous messages to the OIC and raising a complaint we've finally got my sons xbox back thats worth £500 but its got a dint and the part of the back panel is bent in. When they took it we had only had it a few months so we know it wasn't like this. I'm so annoyed and this just tops it off after they ruined his life for over a year whilst they investigated.
I have put a complaint in but is it going to be our word against theirs!

My OHs laptop was badly scratched, the cover from his phone broken and another cover from an iPad missing, but we decided not to pursue it. The OIC in our case was not a very pleasant person, so we decided to let sleeping dogs lie. Had the laptop been actually broken it may have been a different story but the scratches don't affect its use. X
The police wouldn't give any of my sons devices back, they said they will be destroyed.
We had to push to get our devices returned after sentencing- my son's phone and iPad were destroyed but the police also took our 2 computers neither of which he ever had access to and I was determined that they weren't going to keep them and then sell them at auction which I've been told is what happens...
Anyway when we finally got them back a year after sentencing they were both damaged we decided not to make a complaint because son had been threatened by his visor that if he made a fuss then his life would be made more difficult.

Its just so annoying a brand new xbox damaged possibly dropped and we don't know if any internal damage that it could work for a month then stop. Makes me wonder if this is why we had a fight to get it back. My sons case was NFA so all devices were returned. We never expected anything to be found because we had evidence of my son reporting stuff. This just kind of adds insult to injury. My husbands view is just sell it whilst we know its working, we even still have box as not had it long but the damage will devalue it.
You need to contact the officer in charge, show them pictures of the damage. Ask them for an explanation why it was damaged and ask about their compensation policy. Ask about repair costs or replacements too. If not happy then take it up in a formal complaint through the IOPC
