My husband changed his name through his solicitor. Legal aid covered it, he only changed his first name as a surname would be complicated with changing everything. You can do it online also. X

Hi, I changed my name through a solicitor, that's the only totally legal way, it allows you to change your name at the bank too, it cost in total £200 and only took a couple of weeks.

Hope this helps.

I used one of the online places, I think it was about £13 when we discovered no-one had the original paperwork anymore from when my mother changed mine when I was a kid. Didn't take long, just filed in the forms and got someone to witness it. Good luck with it all

Hi, we changed our surname through a solicitor. Our son changed his name at school prior to the official change as schools allow you to use a 'prefers to be called' alias . If the school is aware of your situation they may be happy with you using the new name straight away.
