Cedarkey,

Really sorry to hear this, l think l saw the story pop up this morning.. First of all make sure you and your family get support and take care..

In relation to libel, the key is being able to prove a false, published statement caused (or is likely to cause) serious harm to your reputation.. this is where the difficulty comes in.. playing devils advocate, the media could say that regardless of the false statements your sons reputation was already seriously harmed by also publishing the charges...

That aside, it is horrendous how the media can publish such a thing at such an early stage in proceedings... media these days is just a disgrace..

Take care

The IOPC is the place to go for all newspaper complaints. The BBC has its own internal complaints department.

I’m so sorry, Cedar. My son’s story was exposed by the media too, so I know how devastating, traumatic, and unbearable this can feel right now. The shock, the fear, the grief—it can take over everything.

For a little while, you may feel painfully visible, like people are talking or watching. That part does pass, even though it doesn’t feel like it ever could right now. Some people you expected to stand by you may fall away, and that hurts deeply—but over time, they are replaced by people who show up with real compassion and integrity.

Right now, just getting through each day is enough. You won’t always feel this raw or this broken by it. The weight does ease, slowly and unevenly, but it does ease. Please hang on. You are not alone, and this moment—however consuming it feels—will not last.
