Has anyone had any issues getting into countries abroad? Son is on precharge bail with conditions but none preventing him travelling abroad. Solicitor just advised letting her know dates and staying off social media, for some reason. But wondered whether a chance he might not be allowed in on arrival, if it shows up on their systems?

Good morning,

does your son have an SHPO? I read that some countries refuse entry for those on the register.

There is only one thing that would show up on another countries immigration system and that is an interpol notice. Since he has not even been charged that is not very likely.

Some countries do have entry restrictions, usually based on convictions, rather than whether someone has an SHPO or is on the SOR. But since none of that is shared by the UK police, they have to rely on self disclosure by the person themselves. The only exception is interpol notices.

Unsure at your stage but anyone on the SO register is not allowed into America or Australia.

Also, advised if going abroad to not not book a holiday with TUI (change in Ts&Cs) as we had to cancel our holiday (full refund) with them last year and re-booked with Jet2.

Thanks everyone. He's not been charged yet and unlikely investigation will be finished before the autumn so for the moment sounds like he'll be ok, but helpful to know re Tui, thank you. And worth checking other companies terms then. Beyond now the longer term is likely to be trickier by the sounds of it!

As far as I am aware its only after being charged you may have an issue. I know places like Disneyland and centre parks do have stuff I their T&C. So the best thing is to Google if there are restrictions and read T&C

Center parcs has it in their T&C's (as in, they do not knowingly allow anyone on the SOR to stay). I don't believe Disneyland Paris has anything like this in theirs.

Obviously terms and conditions are not the same as legal restrictions

In terms of the USA and Australia, it has nothing to do with being on the SOR. Both countries look at what the conviction was for and how long the sentence was.

It is still possible to get into both by going through the visa route, but this can be a long process.

Thanks Edel2020. Do you know of people who have managed to get visa for America. We saw it's possible but wondered whether in reality they block most people. Not that we're thinking of it this year but he is sad at the thought of it never being possible.

I have not heard of any, but every case is different. The more evidence you can provide of rehabilitation and the longer the time since the offence occured, the better the chances are. There is a lot of detail on the Unlock website about the process.
