June 2024 my ex husband was arrested for online sexual offenses against children. I was told after my daughter (he is her biological dad) was interviewed by the police at her school.

last week the police came to update me on what evidence they had on him.
800 Cat C, 10 Cat B and 10 Cat A. Both possessing and distributing.
I had to ID my daughter in some photos. They also told me they have photos of me from when I was a teenager. (He groomed me from when I was 12)

They are planning on reinterviewing him and then will go to the CPS for charging.

I want justice, the police say they can't tell me what his sentence is likely to be.

Does anyone know roughly what it will be.

The key issue is whether he is charged with taking or making. If he took photos of family members and those photos are indecent, then it should be a production charge, not possession. That means a prison sentence is very likely.

If the photos he took were not indecent and he is only being charged with possession or making of images of non family, then it will probably be suspended. The judge will view him taking photos of his own child as an aggravating factor though. If he is distributed images of his own child to a lot of people, that is also going to increase the likelihood of a prison sentence.

A production charge is worse than either possession or distribution. The next thing they will look at is the category. If he took cat C photos of his own child, that could be a prison sentence of maybe 2 years, but if it was Cat A then 3 or 4 years is a real possibility.

Although having said that, if it were Cat A, then I would also expect him to be charged with other things as well, like sexual assault. So if that has not happened, then the images of his own child are not likely to be Cat A.

Was she aware of images being taken? This may fall under charges of voyeurism if they're engaged in private acts.
