Peter Mandelson

Every time I turn on the news or the radio I hear about the 'foolishness' of clever, respected people who continued to associate with Epstein after his conviction. I nod along and then realise this could be said about me maintaining my relationship with a man serving a suspended sentence for IIOC. A paedophile in name even if I don't see him that way.
I feel the case with Mandelson is going to damage the way people like us are seen and treated moving forward. I have tremendous sympathy for the poor victims and they're lost in all of the media coverage too.
I fee like I can't escape the P-word every day and it's crushing me. Perhaps this is an over-simplification of a terrible, tragic situation but I can't be the only one feeling like this can I?!

There was a guy on Question Time last night, who said he would never be friends with someone like Epstein. But one of his friends could be downloading iioc right now and he would not have a clue.
This crime seems to affect men in every walk of life. Police officers, solicitors, lawyers, doctors and so on, and so on. There have been studies done in the past, estimating that 5% of men have an interest in children. Not particularly reliable, as it was a survey of university students, but the police claim there could be 800,000 men in the UK looking at iioc.
The media continue to misuse the p word and they flip constantly between calling Epstein a convicted sex offender and a convicted p word, as if they do not understand the obvious legal issue, which is that you cannot be convicted of having an attraction.

Not very long ago I was talking to my adult, tuned-in, intelligent, open-minded daughter and commented about the careless use of the P-word and how her brother would be called that by some people. She said 'well, that's what he is, isn't it?" She had no clue about the legitimate meaning of the word and the different words for attraction to post puberty teens or those who have an attraction to adults as well as children- and no room in her uneducated brain for any reason for men committing these offences to be called anything but the P word.
I listen to a few podcasts and video contributions from Independent journalists in the USA and this is beginning to be discussed a bit more there as a MAGA senator whose details I can't remember had defended Epstein by saying he wasn't the P word as he clearly liked teenage girls who in some states he could legally marry. (I have no sympathy with that idea) I hate the idea that anyone would call my son a P as he clearly isn't, using the true definition, but he is a sex offender and that is a stigma he will have to bear forever and unlike addicts where they can proudly wear a badge saying they are a reformed alcoholic or drug addict, there is no such place for our people who would most likely get stoned rather than a round of applause.

While the stories are painful to see and read, I'm actually really glad that they're coming to light and being taken seriously. Not so long ago many sex crimes weren't taken terribly seriously...stuff like voyeurism (which my now ex committed against me - he was found out as a side product of the IIOC investigation) were just shrugged off, men approaching teenage girls were just the butt of jokes about 'dirty old men', but nothing was ever really done. And some men got away with horrific contact abuse. Personally I'm old enough to remember knowing that as a younger junior woman I had to avoid being alone with certain senior males in my profession - us younger women used to compare notes on them! So TBH I'm not sorry that men are finally being held to account, after literally thousands of years of getting away with sexually exploiting women and children. I'm just tired of men in general TBH (just look at the popular tags in 'mainstream' porn). I realise I may be in a minority here though! Yes the news stories hurt- but they hurt because of what my ex did - its his fault not the media's.
I do however agree that using the word 'paedophile' of someone with an interest in girls post-puberty isn't strictly accurate, but its not as if coming up with another word would make people any more 'tolerant'! Being into 12yos or 14yos is still pretty grim.

Admittedly I'm feeling particularly angry having just read the coverage of the Jon Ruben case. I feel physically sick. I am just so so tired of these men.
