Its usually a police tactic to get a suspect to speak about the allegations or if evidence is weak they will use it to try and get them to admit to it, so no different to the first arrest interview, its just their way of having a 2nd attempt at getting evidence. Or to clarify what they found on a device.

According to a youtube video the outcomes are:

Charges finalised, bailed to await court dates

Bailed and investigation continues

RUI

NFA

Arrested (no idea why they would re arrest after a 2nd interview since that was the whole point in attending to avoid being arrested)

They went through what they found on my husbands phone with him. Asked him a load of questions relating to what they found on his phone and then he left knowing it was all going to CPS.

About 3 months later he got sent his charge sheet then about a month later plea hearing then a month later sentenced.

Just to add that if it is for further questioning then it's completely appropriate to say 'no coment' to everything.

All too often at initial arrest, people for the kinds of offences our people are mostly arrested for, blurt out a confession to everything (especially as the police all too often act as a new BFF to encourage a confession) but it is actually the police's job to prove a suspect's guilt. The duty solicitor should explain this, but often doesn't.

Our son admitted everything when arrested but gave a 'no comment' second interview which worried me terribly in case it went against him but it's what is said at the plea hearing that counts in terms of time off a sentence for a guilty plea. It feels like someone is being difficult but it's standard practice.

Just so you are aware the OIC arrested my OH when he arrived for 2nd interview and read him his rights. This was because they had found forensic evidence that was not available at first interview. Under instruction from our solicitor OH gave a no comment interview

He was bailed for 6 weeks while it went to CPS then charged and bailed again for 8 weeks till plea hearing - some of the evidence produced in the 2nd interview was not presented in court - there wasn't enough proof of the ages of those involved.

Thanks all. Very helpful just to try and help process the next stage.

Spoke to him last night. He said OIC asked him what he's been up to, if he's still working, if we're still together. She said she'll tell the solicitor but I think he's emailing him anyway himself. And said a plea would likely be 4-6 weeks. Which I wasn't expecting so I don't know if he misunderstood.

oh and they didn't just give him a time to come. Which I was expecting, I didn't expect them to be almost accommodating with working out a date/time for the interview

That sounds wrong regarding the plea? Usually the next stage is for it to go to CPS, which will take several more months (11 and counting in 'my' case, though that is very unusual I think!). Then you receive the charges and a date for the plea hearing in the post.

It can happen very quick if the police want that. My OH was arrested, charged and sentenced in 3 weeks. Was told if there is anything further they will just re arrest him. Never heard of anyone else beign that quick. But it can be. Arrested Tuesday morning, in court with a plea thursday and then sentenced a week and half later. So it all happened before i even got to speak to OH. So quick is not always better as there are so many things i learnt afterwards that the OIC did wrong.

Forgot to mention he was being held on on remand for his own safety
