I am finding the news really triggering. When i first read about Matthew Doyle i assumed it was him that was the convicted sex offender and that is why the MP's all wanted to oust him from the house of lords. But no, it is because he was a friend of one. He says his friend was arrested but that he plead not guilty and he believed his friend. Though i agree it was not the best thing to compaign in the public eye while awaiting the investigation, it opens up the debate of believing your friends. They now want to oust some one who used to be a friend that has now been convicted. What does that make me? So far I have stayed with my OH. The papers are lapping this up, and all the MP's are in frenzie, no one wanting to even admitt that they are friends with a friend of a sex offender. I am not religious but i always think of the saying 'let him/her who is without sin cast the first stone.' When will it end.

Just needed to get my thoughts written down. Hope this has not upset anyone.

Hi

This did get to me when I read the article today and made me think about how I am perceived for the first time in a long time as a partner who stayed.

However, the sensible side of me sees that the politicians and media will say what the public expect them to say as it's a pile on with all the Epstein drama and they sense blood with Starmer too.

It will pass and soon be tomorrow's chip paper..

I was thinking about this too. Before this all happened I wouldn't have questioned what the media are calling for, off with his head. But like all massive life lessons I have a different view now, why is he being vilified for standing by a friend. Isnt that what my family & friends have chosen to do for my son?

I posted similar sentiments about Peter Mandelson recently. The news at the moment is full of 'silly' people making 'foolish' decisions to 'associate' with sex offenders. It's all so black and white to everyone.
Pre-knock, I know I'd have been the same so I can't blame others but now, it's so upsetting. So much stigma means people are afraid to even try and empathise or understand.
