Are private forensic examinations worth it? If so when would be best to do it? Person got charged on Tuesday but no mention of taking devices back?

It very much depends on what evidence the police have and what possible defences the person might have available.

Some of the most common explanations, like being hacked, or downloading something but not realising what it was, can be hard to prove.

My person has plea hearing mid March. Still waiting for solicitor to be sent evidence from cps. If I was to get private forensic, when would be the best time to do it?

Ideally before the plea hearing, although if the results are not back in time, he can just enter no plea and ask for more time. The solicitor normally recommends someone, so always discuss with them first what to do.

Okay thank you. Do you know what things could be proven in private forensics that normal police forensics wouldn't? Just not sure if it's worth it.

We did it but I had to know it was genuinely never searched for and it proved that for me, yes he was looking at porn, he opened a link with 5 pics deleted immediately and never visited it again or any porn, his biggest mistake was not reporting what he seen but realistically who would go to police and say I have seen something I shouldn't

Did it make a difference to sentencing that they were never searched for?

is this not in the forensic examination that the police do if anything was searched for, how many times clicked on etc?

It depends what you are trying to prove. The police would probably search the internet browsing history for keywords and they would know the date the images were last accessed, the date they were downloaded and the date they were deleted if applicable.

If your defence is that the files were deleted straight away and there were no searches, then you probaly have enough from the police evidence.

But if the police claim that searches were made and the person denies that, then you might need a second opinion and if the person is saying they were hacked, that would also need more investigation.

He was given 1 year supervision and 1 year on sor we had one visit only from ss regarding our daughter, for me I just needed to see it in black and white I personally felt the police painted a much bleaker picture of his offence I am in no way downsizing the crime as these are innocent children but the fact was he was on a porn site and this was a link that came up the police were never interested in saying no search history or anything the cps focused heavily on the 5 pics nothing else I just felt it gave our solicitor more ammunition
