Hello everyone

New to this, and who thought I'd end up here, not on my bingo card. It's agony, isn't it.

My youngest is currently awaiting crown court sentencing and intel suggests that he may be sent to Bure Prison. As soon as you google this it says it's a specialist unit for sex offenders.

I find it upsetting that it's made so obvious online as we've tried to protect people from knowing what he's been convicted of.

Whilst it's a specialist unit and looks amazing, I'm terrified about people finding out what his offence was and that negatively affecting his life (and ours for that matter) for ever, or more than it's already been affected. We are trying to mitigate too much information being leaked, and only telling people on a 'need to know' basis what the details of his offence were.

Any form of contact seems to need the name of the prison.

Any advice, lovely people?

Thank you :)

Sorry you are here, but you are now amongst people who understand what you are going through, so hopefully it feels like a safe landing.

People will unfortunately talk, but limiting disclosure to those who need to know is a good strategy, but in time people will probably find out. This is something we can only control up to a point, I think.

Whether your boy goes to prison or not his life will become more restricted once he is sentenced, due to the register, shpo, probation, etc. His life, and yours, will be irrevocably altered, for a long time. Has his solicitor said that prison is likely, I wonder?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but truly, there is not much positive about any of our situations :( except that having been caught our person does now have the chance to turn their life around and make positive changes going into the future, so that's a positive!
