Well I had a bomb shell today which after the past 18 months with my person (who's doing well) that I really didn't need

I called round to see a mate we have known each other for 40 years

to find his wife in a state of shock he had just been arrested for voyeurism he's know back home but apparently he has been having an affair amd had set up secret cameras in his mistress house linked to his laptop

it sounds like a film plot I know I may sound stupid but I didn't even know this existed

has anyone ever heard of this offence? X

Voyerism has been a crininal offence for a while now it is recording people doing private acts where that person expects privacy. So that would be setting up cameras in toilets, changing rooms, bathrooms and bedrooms to spy. The person being filmed has to be unaware they are being watched.

Its also been in news lately that some want voyerism extended to recording in public places such as on trains or walking streets during a night out. Current law says even recording children in public is allowed.

Its a pretty common sexual offence, aided by technological advances. When my ex was pulled in for IIOC the police also discovered that he'd been filming me secretly for some time (bedroom & bathroom). Depressingly enough I was relieved it was 'only' me - thankfully no evidence of him offending in this way against others IRL was found. And ironically, given the very very small number of IIOC eventually uncovered (all deleted & from a single date / file) he may well be telling the truth regarding his lack of interest in under 18s. He's just another kind of sex offender! I chose not to press charges as we have children together, who would obviously suffer. He claims not to have shared any images on Kik etc, but Kik is absolutely riddled with non-consensual voyeuristic content (there are whole groups on there where its shared) so who knows.

But the poor poor wife. I'm unclear why she wants him home, I must admit ???? My ex also cheated online and offline it turns out, though oddly never seems to have filmed his hook ups. Its massively impacted my ability to trust any man - I'm just going to be a cat lady I think!

In a way its been 'easier' for me, in that the sheer awfulness of the IIOC has overshadowed it in my mind. I wish a voyeurism offence against me was the only thing to deal with! Though it is mildly odd to think that images of me might have briefly entertained the collected weirdos and sadsacks of Kik - I mostly just pity anyone who gets their jollies looking at grainy videos of middle aged women going to the loo ????
