Hi
I wrote on here last week for the first time about difficulty experienced by my son in gaining employment after losing his job due to pleading guilty of downloaded indecent images of children. He has spoken with his Prob Officer and asked if he could possibly do some charity work obviously not involving children and the response he got was they did not have any knowledge of charities which supported ex offenders... He has been seen by a worker from St Giles regarding training course that was some weeks ago now in fact it was December and he has been chasing them every week since without success. He is so disheartened by it all.
Has anyone on here got any info on charities which will support ex offenders or employers and organisations and help them get into work or training courses.
your thoughts please

Does your son have work experience? Not all jobs ask about convictions. My partner has got jobs that do not do a background check since there is no children risk. As long as he tells the probation team and the police then it should be ok. He will only need to disclose it if asked. Otherwise employers do not need to know. Charity wise I'm not sure about.
I hope he finds something and the probation team give better help too. They are meant to be there to help offenders be a part of the community.
Sending hugs

My partner is the same age and had the same issues finding a job that didn't ask. They don't advertise it of course that they don't ask/check. Smaller companies and independent companies are likely the best chance. I wanted my partner to work for the same company as me (risky I know if it came to light of his conviction) but I knew they ask for convictions regardless.
thankyou Majestictopaz your info is much appreciated
fingers crossed our loved ones find work soon

Mum15, there are some agencies that help. The job centre should be able to point him in the right direction. My husband worked with an agency that put him through his cscs training. Unfortunately he lost his job due to the are we were in. He is now with another agency that is helping fing suitable employment, there are companies who give second chances for offenders.
As a previous charity shop manager it's difficult with anyone with a criminal offence. Most of those who volunteer are vulnerable adults so it's our duty to safeguard. Its rubbish but with all of the scandals in recent years it's the only way to protect everyone x
