I have been in this living nightmare for around a month now with police, social workers and trying to work and get my kids to school. I think I have disassociated myself a bit to try and get through it all however things have come to a point where the kids don't want to go to school and I'm struggling in work. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon to discuss time off but I'm not sure what it should go down as. I was off last year for 4 months due to anxiety and depression/ menopause and I can only get 6 months paid off work. We can apply for more and get paid but they do not allow you to be off with anxiety etc. Any suggestions. I know it's a strange thing to be worried or fixated on but currently my mind is all over the place and I really don't know what to do for the best

Hey Mavis,

sorry you find yourself here.

I m not UK based so maybe the doctors have different criteria where you are but I got a sick note for ptsd symptomatic - was offered 1 month off and didn t go again for another note as in my case work was a good therapy ( helped to keep me busy). I imagine the symptoms would be sufficient for the doctor to give 2 months too.

I wish you all the best and hope your appointment goes well and that your little ones get better too.

I had a month off and it was put down as 'family stress' or something equally generic and understatement of the century!!

Thanks for coming back to me. After speaking with the doctor we have gone with stress at home. I've been signed off for a month so hoping I can get me and my two boys in a bit more of a stable mindset by then

Yes I had about eight weeks off and it was put down as stress but my manager knew the reason why I was off so I don't know if that made a difference xx

I’m so sorry you’re going through this right now. It’s incredibly brave of you to reach out and share what’s happening. Please remember to take a breath and look after yourself, too - it’s so easy to get lost in the crisis and forget that your well-being matters. You aren't alone in this, and there is a community here that understands the weight of what you're carrying.

After the month you should be able to get it extended if ness, as long as work contract permits
