University decision

Hi, does anyone have any knowledge of what happens if young adult is convicted whilst at university? As my person is under investigation whilst police examine his devices, the uni has placed some restrictions on my son, allowing him to attend lectures and the library but no socialising. Not sure if his case will go to court before he graduates but we are obviously anxious he willl be kicked out before he finishes his course. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated xx
Hello Trish
I don't know the answer to your question but have you thought about having this discussion with the uni. It is quite possible each case is treated on an individual basis as there can be so many variables.
How long has your son got before he completes uni? What with the long delays it is quite possible he completes his course before the police/CPS have completed their investigations.

Thanks, yes, uni is only saying they will address it when the outcome is known. He's still got another year there so it could be okay....
I don't understand why can't socialise at uni, aren't they all over 18? Seems really harsh when not charged yet and can socialise anywhere else.
Hello Trish
If he has still got another year at uni, hopefully he will complete uni before the police get back to you.
Is you son able to engage with the young persons or adults inform course with Stop it Now? It might be worth considering as he can also demonstrate to the uni the steps he has taken to understand how he has ended up in this situation. It will all help in the uni making a decision about his future if the investigation is completed quicker than expected.
Alternatively he could be working with another professional, like a counsellor, to show he is taking active steps in understanding how this has happened.

Thank you so much for your replies, yes, he is attending a Safer Lives course and will be seeing a regular counsellor when it ends. Luckily, he is in a great house share and the other lads are being really supportive, having had all his devices taken away means he is actually engaging with his friends more and spending time cooking healthy meals. It does feel harsh that he can't socialise on the campus at all but he is doing everything he can in the hope that he doesn't get kicked out if convicted before he graduates next year. He's at the other end of the country from us and its so hard if he feels down but I'm thankful he has his studies to focus on. I appreciate everyone on this forum, we've all got so much to deal with and sharing thoughts is a godsend xx
