My husband had a call today from the police officer he's been dealing with this whole time. She's told him that there will be charges. 2 counts of possession of extreme porn (animal) and 1 count of speaking to a child under 16.
Both things were on a hard drive and over 14 years ago. Not sure if this makes any difference whatsoever. Nothing else came back on his many devices they took. No IIOC at all which is what they were looking for. We now await a court date. She's said it's magistrates but I know sentencing for this stuff will be crown.
anyone had their person have similar charges? I'm absolutely petrified of what's next. I'm really struggling.

Sentencing isn't always Crown - my OH was sentenced in magistrates - 1 decoy conversation and 2 IIOC. Xx
Please can I ask what your OH got for 1 decoy conversation?
That puts my mind at ease slightly, but everything I've read says this falls into crown court for sentencing although I guess each case is different. Whilst it knocks me sick that he had this conversation, I have chosen to stay with him and try and work on things.
With magistrates, was the first hearing a sentencing or is it multiple hearings? Sorry, I'm so new to all of this I've never had to deal with anything with courts before. My heads a mess.

We are 4 months post sentencing - he got 18 months probation, 180 hours community order and 5 years both SOR & SHPO.

Lostinthewoods, How recent was your persons findings? I'm in completely unknown territory because mine is being charged for thins from 15 years ago. We were told 2 weeks ago he was being charged and we're still waiting for the court date letter to come through so every day the postman comes I'm filled with anxiety. The sentence seems quite high for yours, 2 images and 1 conversation?
We were just relieved it wasn't a prison or suspended sentence - it so easily could have been!
Time line was:
Arrest August 2024 and bailed for 3 months
Nov 2024 bailed for a further 3 months
Feb 2025 bailed again for 3 months
May 2025 - 2nd interview - bailed for 6 weeks while information went to CPS
July 2025 - Charged and bailed to magistrates
August 2025 - plea hearing. At this point he was convicted and had to sign SOR etc.
November 2025 - back in magistrates for sentencing
The decoy conversation happened in July 2024 and the 2 IIOC were from July and August 2024.
Can I ask is yours from an arrest 15 years ago, or was there some other reason why these things from 15 years ago were found on his hard drive?

Timelines are all over the place for everyone it seems but yes I'm relieved for you that it wasn't prison.
the knock happened due to "intel" of downloading multiple IIOC. They took all his devices including a 20 year old hard drive which is where they found the things from 15 years ago. They didn't find any IIOC or anything from recent years whatsoever. To be honest I'm surprised they charged in the end because of how old it was and the fact there were no image exchanges or meet ups tried/areanged and only one conversation but I suppose it doesn't matter how old it was as he was still over 18.
