My friend (with high functioning autism) is the victim of a set up. A local gang who have targeted him several times in the past have stolen his phone, downloaded indecent images and planted it in his property.

This is the second time they've done this to him. To cut a long story short, the first time resulted in my friend being found guilty of possession of an illegal image. He received a non-custodial sentence. He was nearing the end of his probation period when he was arrested the second time.

We currently don't know how many images or their severity. I'm scared that he's going to end up in prison this time. Does anyone have experience of a similar situation? How did it pan out?

What happened the first time? Did he plead not guilty? Did he tell the police about this gang? What did the police do about it?

If he was being monitored by the police, following the first offence, then did he report the phone as stolen, before they arrested him?

I would be amazed if anyone else has experience of a situation like this. Very unusual. I have come across cases of autistic men being told to download images by others, but stealing a phone in order to do it, then planting that phone on the persons property seems extreme. How did they gain entry to the property?
