Had an awful few days. Recap, Son arrested on suspicion of sending iioc to someone on Snapchat in 2024 and was arrested in July 2025, he's been bailed up until April 2026 but now they're applying to the court to be able to extend bail further, they have delivered a copy of the application to the court and just to see everything written down in black and white just nearly knocked the stuffing out of me and I'm massively struggling, it's like having the knock again. We are still waiting on forensics and it all scares me so so much, I wish I could run away - I can't take any of this much longer.

I'm so sorry, this situation is traumatising again and again isn't it. I hope you have people you can turn to? You've got us xx

It really is the most painful thing :( my husbands OIC applied to the court for an extension of bail from 12 months to 18 months and it was granted but then the solicitor managed to get it overturned and was changed to RUI. Maybe that could be something to look into? I don't know how different it would be though going from bail to RUI as we have a child so restrictions were still there but may not be for your son? My husband was arrested May 2024 and just had plea hearing a few weeks ago... coming up to the two year mark!

Really feel for you right now. When things are out of our control it's harder to cope deal with the situation as not something we have ever been in.

Must be worrying knowing the oic has gone to court for an extension.

Can you speak to the solicitor can he do anything to get this to released under investigation instead ?. Do they know how long until they come back?

Sorry for the question but sometimes they can help you process the what if/next scenario.

Please reach out if you need to chat

I am speaking to the solicitor again tomorrow, but according to them this is procedure as hes been on bail for 9 months and they have to apply to court for any further bail time as forensics arent back, so im not sure really. Is there anyone else on here who has had this is this a bad sign?

im worrying more now.

We had a bail extension application about a month ago. Does it not say on the form how long left for the investigation until its over? It should say on a section of the form about what has been done so far and what is expected to be done with estimates of completion dates.

Yes it does say forensics 'estimated' a time of so and so, I'm not at home right now but It definitely says that. I'm just wondering if not released on RUI after 9 months of bail, did that mean anything worse than what I already know about. Sorry I'm such a worrier x

I don't think it's anything to worry about, we're just about to get served notice of another 3 month extension which will take us to 9 months, and our solicitor is already advising that after that it's likely to go to court for extension next time as police can only extend up to 9 months then they have to go to the court to authorise it. So fairly standard procedure is my understanding and we'll be ready to push for RUI at that point. Not fair that they can extend endlessly because there's such a backlog in processing forensics. Try not to worry, easier said I know, and court isn't a pleasant experience even when it's for fairly standard part of the process. One day at a time and cross each bridge as it comes is how I'm coping, most of the time anyway! We will get through xx

My person had a court extension. Nothing changed but it did feel more intimidating for some reason, perhaps it was the psychology of it being "court". It was fine, as fine as fine can be in these circumstances I guess! Told at knock it'd be about 18 months for forensics. 9 months on police bail, the court extension was for another 9 months. Second interview was by 8 months later. So about 17 months in total, not far off what they said at the knock. Waiting on CPS now.

It can take a while for forensics to come back up fortunately. Has he spoken much about what he has done to you? Hopefully he is honest with you as it will make the results a bit easier.

They will stay on bail until court or they drop the case either one really. They just keep extending until either case happens

For clarification there is the possibility of being released under investigation which doesn't have the same restrictions as bail but it also means that the investigation might drag on even longer. This is because the clock effectively stops for the police when the person is not on bail. Bail extensions are common practice and it just means that the police need more time to complete forensics.
There doesn't seem to any consistency in timeframes for these cases, it varies greatly even in the same area. Hopefully you will know more if the court grants the bail extension, try not to read too much into it. It's usually because there is a backlog on forensics xxx
