Hi everyone - at my persons plea hearing, his defence said that he had been using an app called 'Telegram' and that he did not turn off auto-save. I've never heard of Telegram before and think (from what I've researched) it sounds like WhatsApp. To me, the fact he even had this app downloaded only strongly supports that he's guilty. No one in our family or friends circles has used it. Has anyone else heard of it or has had their person use it?

Hey, Telegram is a messenger, as you said very similar to Whatsapp. Equal to whatsapp it has a function to automatically save every foto or video send to you but if you need to enable this or wether it is the presetting mode i don t know.

Where I live people that are suspicious of Meta are using alternative messengers for almost a decade. Therefore i was on Telegram too for a while until they got a dodgy reputation and were linked to russian propaganda. Now almost everyone I know uses Signal, Whatsapp too as many school chats etc. happen there.

As Telegram is not common nowadays as a messenger to connect with people you know, I would ask why was this installed in the first place. There was another forum user here that said he uses it for horse betting as there seem to be some frequented chatgroups so it s usage doesn t necessarily have to imply bad intentions.

Telegram is slightly different from kik.

Telegrams auto save function is turned on by default, while kiks is not. Telegram autosaves to the persons gallery or camera roll too, while kik only auto saves to the cache and the user has to choose to save to their gallery.

So Telegram is, in many ways, worse than kik. But on the other hand, while Telegram is used for porn, it also has many other uses.

Kik, on the other hand, seems to be only used for porn. Both apps allow users to receive messages from people they do not know, but kik actually makes it easier to block them, so "accidents" on kik should be easier to avoid.

I have never used the app myself, however, I have heard a bit about it and I think that it can be used for other things too. I know that some of the firesticks going around that are used to watch things for free, use the telegram app, for example, so yes, still bad and illegal, but not this.

I hope more becomes clear for you as to the case in why it was used here.

The government hate Telegram because of its high encryption and its IP address masking so they will do anything to make it look as dodgy and as horrible as they can to prevent people from using it. But its a very good messaging app so as long as its not used for illegal purposes as its those who use it illegally are the ones that make everyone else look bad for using it.
