I have always loved camping. My OH not so much, so we have only done it once or twice. I camped when i was younger and have always loved it. My friend has bought a motorhome and i love it. I would not be able to afford one, but seriously thinking on getting a caravan. I have started researching it and will get one for next year. My problem is, being a novice owning a caravan i would normally start goign to the well equipted sites to start off with. But many campsites will not allow people on the SOR. So my question is, what sort of camp site would we be able to go to that would not have these restrictions? And has anyone found it difficult to find places to stay with this restriction.

Thank you

Maybe adult only sites don't have those restrictions? Just a thought.

I know that the Camping & Caravan club, and the Caravan & Motorhome club don't knowingly allow anyone on the SOR - we used to have a Moho but sold it - partly because we didn't know what was going to happen and partly because we needed the money as he wasn't working.

Look at privately owned adult only sites on websites such as Pitch up or camp4nite (but obvs read the Ts&C's). Those are our preferred type of site anyway - quiet, no kids, country walks..... Most still have facilities such as a toilet/shower block and some have visiting food trucks etc or are on farms with produce for sale.

We are considering getting a caravan as we can't now stretch to another motorhome but in the meantime we are renting a cottage twice this year - Cornwall and Shropshire - can't bloody wait!!!

It the gift that keeps on giving. I have looked at two different adult only campsites, didnt know they existed, but both state no SOR.

At least with a motorhome you can just park up and stay overnight. (Unless signs say you cant)

These sites do not say no convictions allowed, only people on SOR. If that is the case then we have another 6 years.

But i will keep looking.

There are literally hundreds of sites out there - a quick look and I found 3 which do not mention anything about convictions in the Ts&Cs. It's less likely with the smaller, privately owned, family run sites. Also those attached to pubs are good as you usually get a discounted meal.
It may just take a little more research than you would usually do - I for one have never read the Ts&Cs before now.....now it's the first thing I do!! X

We've been camping a couple of times since being on SOR staying at a privately owned site that doesnt have any anything in the T's&C's to prevent us from staying there. Its a family site with a play park for the children, showers, a shop and its right beside the sea.

Can I ask how they would know? Didn't think SOR details were public.

It is very unlikely that they would know, which is why many use the word "knowingly" in their t&c.

But there is always the possibility that the police or probation would research the t&c and inform them. It really depends on the officer and how keen they are.

You also cannot entirely rule out the possibility of a nosy neighbour doing the same thing.

So if you are planning a holiday, be careful who you tell.
