So it's been a little while amd I'm sure quite a few of you remember by horrendous story and outcome - my son was the offender, 22 images total across all categories including beastialitly and extreme porn. It went live in media within 3 hours of court hearing and subsequently we had an horrendous protest amd my son was removed from home for his safety - my son was 23 is autistic and he received 10 years sor and 10 years shpo. We were completely blindsided by this as was told maximum would be 5 years on the register (I know it could of easily been an immediate prison sentence and potentially life on the registers, so it could definitely of been much worse) what I'm struggling with is the harsh restrictions on the shpo -.no unsupervised contact with anyone under the ages of 16, ok fine but his ppu tells us that this is any kind of contact whether it be supervised or unsuppervised unless SS assess and do a safety plan, his crime was. Internet based only.

I have been reading that after 5 years we can take this back to court and potentially get the shpo dissolved and was wondering if there are any success stories of this, and would there be any media involved (we are more petried of the media than the shpo staying put!)

Also he is doing so well at the moment he has been in temp accommodation since being outted last year and has made some friends, he has now been offered a flat 2 minutes away from our family home and he is extremely nervous of moving, even though hes been told he either accepts it or they will remove him from temp accommodation, how likely is it that he will have to pretty much live from a rucksack and have to move again in the blink of an eye.

I suppose what I'm looking for is what has life after being outted and having it recorded on social media, this was thousands of shares,.comments, etc been like your those who have had the unfortunate luck of going through it??

Also..... Thinking of all the new one at the start of this journey... I promise you will get through this and it does get easier, I'm giving you all the biggest squeeze ever x x x

Hi, it's good to hear from you and to know life has settled somewhat for you and your son.

We are now two and a half years on from sentencing and all the media attention, and we are also considering applying to the court to amend my son’s SHPO. We are not looking to remove the “no unsupervised contact” condition entirely, but instead to ask whether it could be amended to exclude his own children.

From what I understand, this type of application is dealt with in a much less formal hearing, more similar to a family court setting, so there should not be any media present.

Our local media still report almost daily on social media about similar cases, and every post attracts a huge amount of hateful public comment. However, because there are now so many cases being reported, people generally no longer remember my son’s name unless they actually knew him at the time.

As a result, he has been able to move a mile or two away from us and settle into a small community where people either have no knowledge of his past or simply choose to leave him alone and let him get on with his life.

its taken time for my son to gain his confidence again but slowly by taking one step at a time he's getting there and in many ways is now more confident in safe social situations than he's ever been.

I remember reading your posts at the time and feeling horrified by how harshly your son (and you as his family) have been treated by the [totally broken] justice system and the [clickbait hungry] media for a relatively small number of images on a first offence.

I'm glad to hear you are both doing ok.

Someone on this platform posted about a case Dewy 2024 regarding SHPO conditions for internet only offences. Below is a link to more information about it from a solicitor's website. I hope you can get your son's conditions amended.

@ocean - thank you so much for your positive story, I hope that because these things are reported about daily that he will also be left alone to live his now new normal life. I am such a super hopeful and positive person. Meh the shpo don't really bother me I think it more to do with his ppu adding 'extras' to make it more difficult, solicitor and barrister has both told us that he absolutely can be around children supervised without SS assessments but his ppu is awful and as it is still relatively new we do not want to rock the boat as he loves dropping the 'we need ro disclose' bomb constantly!

@bewilderedmum - just took a look at that link and seems a positive move forward for us! Yes the justice system really stitched this kid up but unfortunately we had to suck it up, dust ourselves off and move forward, we are all in such a better place now the impending loom of court, media attention and protest are done. However since being offered his new flat his anxiety has hit an all time high, quite rightly so for him being hounded so publicly and we just hope he will be able.to relax enough not to be living out of a backpack.

Mummy-to-lots, I realise this may not be possible, but I wondered whether a phased move into the new accommodation might help. We were fortunate that my son was able to gradually increase the time he spent in his new accommodation over several weeks, which helped him to relax gradually and begin to feel safe there.

Ocean - This is such an amazing idea for everyone having to go through this but especially for the nerodiverse, unfortunately he's been told they will only give 24hrs grace period before he is charged hundreds for rent of 2 dwelling (I honestly appreciate that housing options are dier) however I do think we are going to book him into a nearby hotel for a week or so whilst we are waiting on items to be delivered, so that in effect is pretty much what we are self funding x x
