Sentencing date and having to check courts listings daily!

Our son had his probation report interview on the 28th April, the probation officer then called him later that day and said that they had contacted the crown court and we have a sentencing date of 5th of May.

Well that never happened, we were then told that we had to check courts listings daily after 4pm and his solicitor would contact him after 4pm, only if he was in court the following day!

so everyday, since the 5th May, we check the court listings to see if our son is on there. We are extremely lucky that myself and my husband both work for a lovely family run business who we have had to tell that we won't be in work one of the days as an important appointment will be coming up for our son and we will only have the evening before notice, our employer knows we are going through something awful with our son who was arrested, but that's all they know.

How on earth can Crown Court that deals with the most serious cases be ran so unorganised is beyond belief!

Is this totally normal round the country? Will we have to check if our son is going to be sentenced the next day for months? How on earth are you suppose to plan anything!

Just fed up and want this to be over now, as so far no media, so noone knows, but the longer this goes on, the more lies we have to upkeep!

Hi heartbrokenmum,

I was thinking of you the other day wondering how things were going for you. A step forward with the probation report being done but the next part sounds very much up in the air for you.

With an asc diagnosis you would think they could plan better so he knows actually when the next bit will happen and as a family you can prepare. I bet you just want this next bit over with.

Great your employer is being supportive.

Hi Heartbrokenmum, unfortunately we had a similar experience with my autistic Son. What he and us have been through at the hands of the CJS was appalling. After 3.5 yrs and lots of being messed around, he got a court date . This was postponed the evening before on 3 occasions, I was a nervous wreck by the time we finally got there. It's a cruel and very unfair way in which to treat anyone .

i really hope you both get it over with soon and can start picking up the pieces - all the best x

Hi Beach, the probation report actually went better than we ever could of imagined, they wanted to see my son by himself to interview and question him, but they said at the end that they would be recommending community service, which we were just hoping for a recommended suspended sentence, so it was a very positive outcome, I know sometimes that the judge dost listen to this, but we will have to wait and see.

One thing I will say about our personal experience through all of this is that everybody we have come across, the police, doctors and nurses at the hospital when our son tried to take his own life who we had to tell why, the probation officer, and the police officers that come round for his first check once he was on the SO list have all been very kind, so much so, that I feel like we don't deserve their kindness after the awful things our son has done (all images but top end).

Our employer has been great, not sure if they still will once it comes out and they know what our son has actually done, but only time will tell.

Hi Winnie, what's really frustrating is that we have only been given the one court date, that was the 5th of May, then it looks like he's not going to be given another, we just have to check daily! Our solicitor says that it's like it feels like they put all the names in a tombola machine and pick some out for that day! Whereas Magistrates Court was so organised, but Crown court seems to be a shambles.
