Grandparents and register

Has anyone any experience of this? My husband has been placed on the register, don't know how long for yet as he hasn't been sentenced.
Assuming he gets suspended sentence which is what the solicitor is hoping, I'm confused about our youngest grandchild who is under 2. My daughter and son in law live abroad but when they visit they'd normally stay with us. The solicitor keeps saying that as I know about the conviction it will still be OK but I'm not sure. He'll have to notify the police, and then surely that would trigger child protection but as my daughter is living in another country how would that work? Would they have to visit while she was here or could they view me as the one safeguarding? I can't seem to find an answer no matter how much googling I do. I just keep getting examples of families who all live in the UK

now that he is on the register he will be assigned a risk manager from the local police force. Expect a visit within a few days of the initial registration which he will have to do within 3 days. They will be the best person to answer these specific questions, they will probably ask about family members and any children they have in their first visit.
i made a list of specific questions I wanted to ask my husbands PPU manager and ensured that I got time with him too when he visited so I could ask him.
i know that doesn't give you a clean cut answer.

Thanks mjl it's all new and very scary right now
It's a whole new world that none of us knew anything about before we started this nightmare. Hopefully his PPU manager will be nice, I know my husbands is, even if I hated him for forcing me to disclose to my sister, though obviously that was going to need to be done at some point. My username on mumsnet is the same as on here, so feel free to message me on there.
