Sentencing hearing - transcripts?

My dad has pled guilty (and spared us all a trial) and is waiting for sentencing.
I'm planning to attend, not really to support him but to hear the judges remarks for myself. However, I'm concerned that being the only family member there there's going to be a lot of pressure to remember everything that's said.
Does anyone have experience of requesting court transcripts, and of the costs involved? I don't want to be the only source of truth for the day.
Would also be grateful if anyone could share their experience of what the day might entail - trying to mentally prepare myself.

Yes I have, It was in Northern Ireland but costs were low - £40 or there abouts.
I didn't attend court when ex was charged and it was all over news. A year later I appled to hear the CD recordings in court. I found it incredibly healing to do this. I know I read about it first which was horrific, but had I not read it in the news first I wouldn't have been prepared for the audio. I'd highly recommend it for peace of mind and clarity.
