The SOR has the same standard reporting requirements for everyone on the register. When someone is given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), day?to?day life with their children depends entirely on the specific conditions written into their individual order. SHPOs are tailored to the person and the circumstances of the offence, so restrictions can vary widely.
In my son’s case, he has young children and continues to have regular contact with them. To comply with the SOR requirements, he had to provide the police with the children’s names and details, which is standard procedure.
His SHPO includes a condition stating that he cannot have unsupervised contact with anyone under 18 unless this is approved by social services and by the child’s parent or guardian. Social services carried out their assessments and confirmed they were satisfied for him to have unsupervised contact with his own children. Their mother also agreed to one unsupervised day a week.
Because she has only agreed to that one day, all other contact, such as weekends and school holidays, must still be supervised. As a result, he currently has the children to stay regularly, but under supervision to comply with the SHPO.
