Frustrated with the process

Not posted for a while.
OH arrested in March 2025 for obscene publication.
SS involved and child put on CIN plan. OH was not allowed at home or unsupervised contact with our child or any other.
5 months on, requested to chamge bail conditions to him being able to be at home and unsupervised with our child which was agreed. SS closed case at this point.
While life has somewhat gone back to normal, it is still a dark cloud hanging over us.
At initial arrest was told process takes ablut 12 months.
We are now at 18 months and bail is currently extendes until the end of November
About 3 or 4 months ago got news that one device had gone through and was conpletly clear. But still waiting for another.
Why do they not do a case at a time it seems crazy.
I suppose i am trying to understamd Process.
Is there a point where is becomes unreasonable or can police literally take as long as they want.
Do they look through phones when forst arrest ( they had pin) so surely would see if there was something obvious? I understand thos would not show hidden or deleted stuff but surely would give indication?
I read somewhere that you can reuqest for them to go to CPS and sometimes they will close case if after this time they have nothing to charge and case is deemed low rosk. Is this true?
Im just so fed up of waiting. My son is now older and wants friends over or picked up from places and life it becoming difficult again. I just want this over.
