Lie detector test

My Dad was asked to do a lie detector test, which is pointless in my eyes because the results can't be used in court. He also has FND that causes tremors so can't see how it would be accurate.
The solicitor also couldn't give any advice because it's not covered by legal aid.
Anyone experienced this? Did it help or make things worse?
