Inquests into suicides by people under investigation
Notifications OFF
For those who are interested, the BBC website is reporting on a inquest carried out this week into five men took their own lives while under investigation by police and having had their bail extended several times. Although the offences weren't specified, there was reference to sexual offences, devices being seized and the men being investigated having to leave the family home so I'm sure you can gather what type of offences are involved. The coroner was concerned that the length of time these men were under investigation and the level of support that they were given, or not, when they had not at that point been convicted of any crime. The coroner has made a number of recommendations. I would post the link but it's not allowed, if you look on the BBC regional news website under Cumbria or Google coroner inquest Cumbria then you should find it.
It is appalling the amount of time it is from first arrest to sentencing. We are 18 months in since the first knock and although the investigation has come to a conclusion, it has not yet been passsd to CPS. It could be another 6-9 months min. All the while we live with uncertainty. I will check it out and thank you for posting.
