Hello, just looking for some advice. I have fond out today that my ex partner, after 20 months on bail, is now on court bail and due to appear in magistrates court the middle of November. What will actually happen at the first court hearing? Will he be sentenced on that day or what could happen after. I've had 20 months of anxiety, upset and basically trauma thinking about it all. I just want there to be an end in sight for me and my daughter to get our lives back. Also worried about press and it all coming out as I've kept it a secret. Thanks

Hi apple. My husband has just had his first hearing at magistrates today. His has been adjourned but we've got quite unique circumstances- he had pre charge representations made that the CPS didn't bother to review. But all being normal, he would've gone in and made his plea. Its pretty simple and administrative honestly, with maybe a fair bit of waiting around. We were very lucky that there appeared to be no press at the court today. Magistrates tends to be quieter.

Likelihood is he won't be sentenced on the day unless its very low level stuff ie one or two images. If he is pleading guilty, they'll most likely adjourn for a Pre Sentence Report (PSR) to be written and to decide whether the offence can be dealt with at magistrates, or needs to go up to Crown Court- this all depends on how his crime is categorised and therefore the maximum sentence (Images are categories A, B and C, communication is A1-B2). He'll also need to go to a police station within 3 days to sign onto the SOR. If he pleads not guilty, it'll be adjourned and sent to Crown for trial.

Hope all this helps, wishing for the best for you and your daughter. Will you be attending with him? I can let you know what thay will be like for you if you are x

Thank you so much for your reply. It means a lot. No I won't be going with him.. not seen or spoken to him since his arrest February 2025. They came to arrest him at home at 6.30am and he had left for work. The drove to his work to arrest him and I told the police to tell him I never wanted to see him again. He's not my daughters dad thankfully. He had bail restrictions that he couldn't come to the house or the street with me having a daughter. I just want it to be all over for us. Trouble is we own the house together so that's another hurdle to cross later with solicitors. Just hoping he pleads guilty as can't handle another 2 years to wait for a trial. Thank you again. X
