First court date passed, what happens now?

Hi all.
my person had court on the 12th and PF didn't have all info handed over from police etc, but the criminal investigation is apparently closed. Said it can be months now until we hear anything else, if it likely they will not receive another courts date for a long while? Just so confused by it all was was really hoping this would be the end of it, dreading having to relive this all again.
