Hi, has anyone had experience of their child self harming due to them struggling to understand how horrendous this type of crime is? But also the conflict in their mind of their Dad (who was an amazing Dad) just disappearing one day and not been seen since (3years). No supervised contact due to bail conditions and the police not putting the ss referral in. I feel helpless and I don't know what to do.

A bit of context: sentenced to 8years (5years imprisonment, 3years on license) after being on bail for 3years for sexual communication with a minor (11year old), shpo for 15 years and SO register for life.

How old is your child? Are they getting counselling at school?

Lots of therapy. My BBF has BPD and they think its caused by her dad disappearing in her childhood (server mental health - was sectioned). No one really talked about it and they still dont. He just came home one day with zero memories after 5 years away. She struggles still with hospital due to the trauma and has self harmed since childhood. Its taken 10 years of thetapy but shes finally healing. So I highly recommend therapy. Understanding that they can be both is hard for a child. They are your loving, caring dad. But they have done a bad crime and that means they cant see you. It doesnt take away they were loving and caring to you. And thats such a difficult thing for a child to understand and process because how can you be both?

My child is now 14. 11 at the time of arrest. Counselling was offered at school from day one but initially refused by my child. However, due to start counselling this week at school, so it's a start.

That's good news Trixie. A start, as you say. Hope it goes well.
