Struggling to get my head around it

Yesterday I found out my only uncle had been raided and arrested for viewing indecent videos of children and I'm honestly struggling so much to get my head around it, as someone that was groomed and abused as a young teen by a predator I just can't comprehend that a family member has viewed that kind of material, my head feels so heavy and I feel physically sick at the thought, I had alot of respect for him growing up and now I just don't know what to do
Hi UnknownBeai would urge you to call the Lucy Faithfull helpline and speak to someone. Its often very busy but if you keep trying they will answer. Have you had any previous help or counselling regarding the abuse? I would say it would be worth seeking help as no doubt this has triggered many difficult emotions for you.
As for your uncle, he is no doubt feeling very exposed and distressed and I hope he is getting help to address his behaviour. He is not just this offence, he is still the person you knew. I don't believe any offender chooses to wreck his own life in this way, they are all troubled to some extent and I truly believe these offenders need help not condemnation. You are probably too shocked and hurt to do anything for him right now so just look after yourself first and get help for you.

Also please remember that despite being arrested, it does not mean he is guilty. Just that he is being investigated. Hugs x
Hi this is the most difficult thing to try and make sense of.. but you have to give yourself time. I would never have believed my husband would do what he did but 4 years post knock we are still together tough times come and go. But we do have more good than bad, it took a while though xx Stay Strong and big hugs sent ?
hi Unknown Bear. I hope things have improved for you and you have worked things out. Remember if you thought a lot of him once there was a reason for that. These things are not normal and need investigating as to why.. please try to understand that there is a reason why most get caught up in this seedy world.. i hope it works out for you Lilly
