Hi all,

4 weeks till dads first court appearance, just for plea. Expecting crown court to follow and told to expect a custodial sentence if very lucky a suspended. I have had the difficult chat with dad about "what ifs" and that we need to be prepared for everything. Dad is on his own (mum divorced and passed away) so its just me and my younger sister for support. Dads not the most capable person and this whole ordeal has taken its toll both mentally and physically on him...on all of us actually, I know its deserved but it doesnt stop it breaking my heart.

My question is, what to pack in prison bag I was thinking underwear and toiletries (basics) anything else allowed?

Is there anything else we should be doing?

I've got him set up online banking and he is looking at allowing me access so I can sort his financials out because I'm worried he will be targeted in prison and also hes crap at sorting anything out he is so gullible.

We are hoping to talk to his landlady and keep his flat on in the event he goes away...does anyone have any experience of this?

Any other advice to prepare for prison would be greatly appreciated

Unlock.org js resources on how to prepare including what to pack. I think it is recommended to have a list of contact numbers to make it quicker to arrange when inside.

Hi there, my dads sentencing is later this week, I have told him to pack the basics, anything that they won't allow will just be held by them and given back when he leaves. Fingers crossed for both my dad and yours x

Hi Vicky86

My son is in prison at the moment. We packed tracksuit bottoms, t shirts (plain, no logos) sweatshirts/jumpers (no hood) pyjama bottoms, flip flops, underwear and socks. Clothes cannot be black and no black trainers. We packed toiletries but he wasn't allowed them and they provided basic toiletries until he could buy some in there. Make sure he has all contact numbers written on a piece of paper in his bag as this will speed up him being able to contact you. You can also take a few books in with you. Hope this helps, sending hugs xx

My husband is looking at a prison sentence, his sentencing was due today but cancelled at the last minute! Now looking at week commencing 17th August, he's been watching videos on you tube to prepare himself, he's packing a bag with a change of clothes, toiletries and some cash, he's also trying to memorise mobile numbers!

stay strong

Thanks so much VanVan!

ConfusedAdultChild, how ru feeling? How was court? Hope your dad is ok. Thank u for letting me know how u got on. A suspended sentence is what we r hoping for, although looking unlikely. I really hope u dont hit the media, it's a real worry for us too as dad has all 3 cats with high numbers over 11 years worth of viewing

Take care and I'm here if u need to chat x

Vicky86 - think we're just glad that parts over as one less thing to worry about. I didn't go to court because I would have found it too much if he had got a custodial sentence. Time will tell now with the media, anybody know how long it normally takes for them to publish? It's just a waiting game I suppose and you just need to keep checking but it doesn't do you anxiety any good does it!
