Afternoon,

So hb was in court yesterday, 2 years coummunity order 30 days rehabilitation and 5 years register and shpo.

Thankfully no media, will still be checking the local paper for the next week or so.

With regards to the shpo and the register do they have to be declared to relevant parties, eg work, insurance companies??

Cant believe after 18 months of hell and torture, a new part of this rollercoaster has now began.

Hope everybody is keeping safe and well

Mata xx

Mata, the rule of thumb regarding insurance companies is if they dont ask you dont tell. Most insurance companies increase premiums for anyone with a record even if it's not relevant ie car insurance.

Unlock.org is a great source of information

When it comes to disclosure it is only when asked or if in the contract for employment. My partner was sentenced last year and never told his employer at the time. It did make trying to fit around probation meetings a bit tricky.

The shopo I believe will be flagged if there are background checks, as with the charges. But it is manageable and my partner has had a new job since.

I remember the relief after sentencing since all the restrictions are all laid out and we can live as normal as possible.

Hi Mata

So glad to hear court is over for you and your family. Sounds like the most positive outcome you could have expected?!

Do you mind me asking what the charges were? Is he back home or do you have young children? Xxx

Check your insurance you may find hidden in the small print that you need to declare any convictions within 30 days. If that is the case, firstly call them and ask if they will insurance someone with a conviction do not give them your details. If they won't, then take out new insurance and cancel the existing one.

I didn't do that and contacted my insurance company only to find they cancelled my house insurance with immediate effect and then I had to declare that I'd had insurance cancelled! Home protect will do house insurnance for those with convictions but be prepared for it to be more expensive.

Check work contract, my hb has to declare, even if he didn't probation phoned his boss anyway! Insurance is possible, just be prepared to call them and explain his conviction if asked, only to be refused. (I made him do it!) it is often in the small print of assumptions, so just do your research first. When you have the first police visit, they will explain everything about the SHPO regarding any restrictions he has. Probation work around their job as much as they can but it works both ways. My hb has mostly had phone calls but will use holiday to go in the office when he needs to.

Oh Mata - I do envy you and wish WE were in the same place - still waiting in limbo - 10 months after the knock.

As Sallyblue said - unlock.org are very helpful with info about insurance. They have a downloadable PDF list of companies who will insure people with convictions.
