Hi all,

my step dad was arrested last March for watching child pornography. They had been watching him for some time and he admitted he had indeed been watching it.

he has since had the case dropped as he hadn't downloaded anything, only viewed it'

now this has come from my mum, the police have never been in touch with me or my children. Is this correct? You can watch it but as long as you don't download you are free to go? It doesn't sit well with me and wondered if anyone could shed any light.
many thanks

It is ofc wrong to watch it but I assume if it is true it is dropped is because they can't find enough evidence to send to CPS to make charges. Which is weird since they must have had something to flag up the behaviour.

Even if the case is dropped I suspect he will be 'watched' in some way. Has he explained why he watched it? E.g. one time mistake or sought it out. There is advice on stop it now to combat the dangerous behaviour to not reoffend again.

If you are concerned about him being around your children you can ask under Sarah's law for them to disclose relevant information.

I know in our case police have contacted all family members with children and advised them not to leave children alone with my ex

Oh he is nowhere near my children believe me. It just didn't sit right that he admitted to it and then nothing. He is not on the sex offenders list and is free to go about his life!
