Just wondering for my own peace of mind here with the start of lock down in England this coming thursday will court's be continuing with cases or will they stop all together? Or will they appear via video link?

Reason I ask is my ex partner is due for court soon after Xmas time and I'm wondering if cases are cancelled now that's going to delay his case further than it already has been.

Thanks X

Hi

i am in Scotland but I've followed the England lockdown because I think we will be locked down next. I read the article that had the list of people that have automatic rights to still work through the virus. Court staff were on the list so that would make it sound like cases are going ahead but whether that's only crown court cases via video for remand prisoners or not is anyone's guess. I can only imagine the extra stress and anxiety people are under while waiting for a court outcome throughout this virus. Thankfully we are far into this nightmare and my son was sentenced nearly two tears ago. I really hope that they keep the courts moving otherwise there are going to be a heck of a lot of families sitting waiting and waiting which is so unfair. Here in Scotland, I read that our courts are piling up a five year back log of cases caused by the last lockdown. I read that Scotland are trying to bring more judges in and open the courts at weekends to try and catch up. Whether that will happen or not is yet again anyone's guess. Sorry I can't be of more help x

Thanks nicenana I hope your doing OK in these strange times.

My ex is out on bail, he's had his charges read but remains living In his own place until court.

That's what I am wondering because he isn't on remand will his case still go ahead? I'm secretly praying this will stop reporters going into courts too due to how severe the risks are? So many questions and little answers for us. Like you say of they don't keep on top of the case loads now the impact is going to be severe for everyone involved. This really isn't fair on the families. It's such a slow process. On top of another lock down I don't know how much more I can take.

Hi Yazznan

Re the court system, in my area they are operating although for us instead of getting a date and time for sentencing we have been given a window of two working weeks during which every afternoon the court has to be phoned by my hb to see if the case will be dealt with the following day. It is not ideal but it is better that it being delayed indefinitely.

Hope this helps

Hi izzy

Thank you for your reply. That's interesting. Good to know this might be the case for where we are. Trying to come to terms with this on top of everything else is taking its toll. Hope your okay.
