Hello,

My family member was sentenced two weeks ago and apparently he's not allowed to phone or write to his 5 year old child and no explanation has been given.

Has anyone else had experience with this?

Thanks.

Hi eras.

My partner was arrested in June 2017, sentenced last year. He has two young kids who were 4 and 1 at the time. He has not been allowed any contact with them in any form (phone, email, letters etc). He does send presents tho.

He is going through the family courts to get granted visitation rights with supervision. It hurts him very much that he hasn't been in touch with his kids for so long. I'm afraid due to the nature of these offences the law and authorities reduce the risk as much as possible and cutting contact is one of them.

My partner's ex is very clear she doesn't want him to have any contact so not sure how much of that is impacting the decision also.

This is our experience tho and might be different for others

I have some experience with this. My husband was sentenced 6 weeks ago to 9 months inside, and immediately he was told he couldn't have any contact with his children.
He spoke to a PO about it and they started action to apply for contact. I was sent a letter that I had to fill in and give permission, and also put my comments and the children put theirs too. I had to get 4 passports pics of them to attach to the letter. SS called me and I spoke to them and now I'm still waiting for an outcome which I've been told to prepare for a no, just incase.
I hope this helps a little all the best x
