My dad recently has offered to pay for private therapy. It is to address the fact our relationship isn't great due to my parents divorce and his lack of presence as a dad. He isnt aware of my partner's offence.

I know that if I take up the offer that there will client confidentiality. But I was wondering has others had useful therapy that isn't necessarily sex offending specialists? I am pretty confident I can manage this side of my life (partner on the SOR etc) but I won't be able to keep it from a therapist. I would mostly use it to see how to build a better relationship with my dad (tho I'm 28 and the separation happened when I was 14 so it does seem little too late but many are saying better late than never etc). Just not sure if I'm expecting too much that a therapist can address my issues with my dad and the offence of my partner....

I use a StopSO recommended therapist, whilst she is an 'expert' in this area she also does marriage guidance and general therapy. I would suggest getting someone with this knowledge as they are aware of the difficulties we face. The sessions follow what I feel I need to discuss/explore, this can be anything. The reason I suggest getting someone who understands this area is that I have read on here of therapists who have caused more upset with their personal and uninformed views.
Hope this helps x

Thank you. Yes I do remember now that there have been previous comments that therapists can be judgementaal and not well informed. So I will be on touch with the StopSO. I just do t want my dad to find out how I choose the therapist.. haven't discussed how payment would be made yet.
