Hi, my ex is due to go to court for sentencing at the end of this month. Communication with a police decoy posing as a 14 year old. I am heavily pregnant so will not be attending court. I'm wondering how long it would take to be in the media if there are media present? I haven't been able to move yet and I'm concerned that people will recognise him and target my house and children. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you xx

It really does depend. Locally I have seen it reported the same day/next day but also in a 'in the courts this week' or 'in the courts this month' articles. I've also seen it not reported at all. The more high profile the case the more likely it is to be reported, eg lots of images, or in a position of trust like a Doctor or teacher.

It is very much a lottery, unfortunately. However given the number of arrests a month for these offences and the number of cases reported, i suspect most go unreported.

It helps to prepare for the worse, remove social media / any photos of them online, disable your own social media so no-one can tag you in posts or share them with you. Consider letting those close to you know in advance, especially family who would probably prefer to be told by yourselves and not finding out via social media.

Thank you. It does seem to be a lottery. He didn't have social media, that I was aware of. My family and close friends know, as do his family and a few close friends. I'm more concerned about neighbours recognising him. I'm reluctant to delete my social media because I haven't done anything wrong, I do understand that most people do to protect themselves from further trauma but with covid and the isolation I think I'd go crazy without it. xxx

Hi Emma

I agree it's a lottery. Our son appeared in court at 11am and it was on social media and evening paper that afternoon. I don't do social media and neither does my husband. Our son came off it before court but our daughter did not. Our daughter came off it about two hours after it went in paper because she couldn't stand the comments being made. Nobody she knew said anything to her but there were things on there about our son and my daughter stumbled upon them. This caused her a lot of trauma so I wish she had come off it and went back onto it after everything had calmed down. She's now been back on it a long time and nobody has said anything . Whether that will be the case when our son comes home from prison or not is anyone's guess.we will be keeping our son very low key so not to draw any attention when he comes home. Our son also communicated with someone underage s
