I'm wondering about the long terms effects on the children's lives. If they have checks run as an adult for jobs etc will any conviction against their father come back?

Hi Concerned

I have had to think about this issue as my adult son sometimes works on extremely sensitive government contracts and he has told me and his dad that we get checked out as well as him. He has to give his employer our names, addresses and dates of birth to see if we have criminal records. On a more positive note, his colleague has a criminal record but because it is not an offence relevant to his work (he was found guilty of assault at 18) he can still work on the government projects.

I am hoping our son doesn't get told of his Dad's iioc offence next time these checks are carried out. He is in the dark at the moment. It is not something you can tell him over the phone and due to Covid we haven't seen him for months.

Good luck - generally I doon't believe employers check criminal records of the parents of their staff.

I am replying to advise if he has been convicted this is more than likely going to show up on a check like this! (If it is high security like Government work, MI5 sort of thing or related)

It is horrible to hear over the phone, but I had to, I think it is worth having a think about this. Just in case it comes up in the security check. Or ask your Son how often they do the checks, but then that could bring up questions...
