Hello,

During a similar time I checked with the officer in charge and had them confirm my daughter could send letters etc. She could but non could be returned. My daughter drew pictures and wrote stories and I posted them.

Social workers, although can feedback to the police, don't have much say on bail restrictions. The police/court set them. Hopefully they will review the restrictions after 28 days.

We were allowed supervised phonecalls after 28 days and are now (a year in) on supervised contact. I supervise the visits - they aren't at a contact centre supervised by a worker.

I'd absolutely highlight your concerns about your children's emotional well-being to the social worker whilst also asking what is expected of you from the police e.g. can your children send a letter. I made sure I had it in an email.

I absolutely understand the reasons why they have restrictions but I don't believe they take into account the emotional distress it causes the children having no contact whatsoever. Just to clarify - it hasn't taken a year to get to supervised visits. It was after 3 months of the restrictions being eased each bail date.

Their dad was arrested for viewing 3 cat C's and sharing one cat c image via a messaging site/app. We're not together anymore but I feel we had been heading down the separation path for a while before this. I still want him around as he is an incredible dad when he's on form.

As mentioned before get your husband to do as much as possible with the social worker. It helps to build a picture of rehabilitation. We attended every session together. It was tough on him but I wasnt taking the heat for his misdemeanors.

I copied in the social worker on every email to the investigating officer regarding my children.
